Multan (Urdu/Saraiki/Punjabi: مُلتان) is a city in the province of Punjab in Pakistan. It covers an area of 3,721 sq km (1,437 sq mi) and has a population of about 3.1 million people. It has been variously stated as between the third to fifth largest city in the country.

Multan is an ancient city. It was mentioned in the Hindu epic of Mahabharata as the capital of the ancient kingdom of Trigarta. It is also known by various other names including Kashtpur, Bagpur and Sanahpur, to name a few. The city was conquered by the Arab-Muslim army of Muhammad bin Qasim in AD 712, which introduced Muslim rule and eventual convertion to the population.

Visitors to Multan will find a high number of ornate mausoleums and shrines to Sufi Muslim saints. For that reason, the city is often known in the country as the City of Saints. There are also bazaars where you can watch the daily life of the people.

There are flights to Multan from major cities in Pakistan. There are also train services connecting it with every major city in the country.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
