Haji Lane, Singapore
Haji Lane is one of the roads in the
Kampong Glam neighbourhood of
Rochor, Singapore. A narrow road, it is one way with traffic flowing from
North Bridge Road to
Beach Road. In between, Haji Lane also forms a junction with
Baghdad Street. Two-storey shophouses with five-food ways border both sides of the road.
According to
Singapore Street Names1, Haji Lane passes through land that was once owned by Arab merchant Syed Ali bin Mohamed Aljunied, and was named after the haj pilgrimage. The area was once an enclave of Arab settlers.
