Old Airport Road, Singapore (27 July 2017)
Old Airport Road is one of the main roads in
Geylang,
Singapore. It connects Stadium Boulevard, at the intersection with
Mountbatten Road in the west, with Dunman Road in the east, after the bridge across the
Geylang River.
Old Airport Road got its name from the Old Kallang Airport. In fact, the road was built over the area that was once the old airport runway. Construction of Kallang Airport began in 1931, to prepare Singapore to become a flight hub for flights between Australia and Europe. It opened to civil aviation in 1937, but was replaced by the Paya Lebar Airport in 1955.
The Old Airport Road Food Centre, located on the Old Airport Road, is one of the oldest and most popular indoor hawker centres in Singapore
