Tanjong Pagar Railway Station (GPS: 1.27305, 103.83866) is a disused train station on Keppel Road in Singapore. It used to be the southern terminus of the Malayan Railway or Keretapi Tanah Melayu, the rail operator in Malaysia. Also known as the Keppel Road Railway Station or Singapore Railway Station, this historic railway station is presently (as at time of writing, January 2012, and update, December 2019) being preserved while awaiting the construction of the Cantonment MRT Station.

The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was designed in the Art Deco style and completed on 3 May 1932 following the construction of the Causeway in 1919 and the commencement of goods train serves on 17 September 1923. The opening of the railway station was officiated by Sir Cecil Clementi, the Governor and Commander-in-Chief of the Straits Settlement.

The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was operational until 30 June 2011 after which train services from Malaysia stops only at Woodlands Train Checkpoint. This came about following an agreement between the Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak and Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 24 May 2010. The last train leaving Tanjong Pagar was driven by the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Ismail, who underwent training on how to drive a train specially for the occasion. The Tanjong Pagar Railway Station was designated a National Monument of Singapore on 9 April, 2011.

On the exterior of the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station are four reliefs of white marble. The four figures, designed by Italian sculptor Angelo Vannetti, are allegorical representations of Agriculture, Commerce, Transport and Industry. The statues were originally believed to have been designed by Vannetti's contemporary, Rudolfo Nolli. However, Vannetti's signature was discovered on one of the reliefs, leading to the believe that he could be the one who designed them.1

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
