Yue Hwa Building, Singapore
Yue Hwa Building (GPS: 1.28497, 103.84342) is a 6-storey building in the
Chinatown neighbourhood of
Outram, Singapore. It is located along
New Bridge Road, at the intersection with
Upper Cross Street. It was designed by the architectural firm of Swan and Maclaren and completed in 1936. The building has housed several Chinese establishments.
The Yue Hwa Building was the Nam Tin Hotel, later known as the Great Southern Hotel until 1994. In 1993 it was sold to Hong Kong businessman Yu Kwok Chun for S$25 million, to house the Singapore flagship store of the Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium, which opened in 1996.
The Yue Hwa Building is a gazetted building that will be preserved by the Urban Redevelopment Authority for its architectureal merits.
