Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps is an international World Heritage Site covering six countries. The inscription protects 111 sites of stilt houses built during prehistoric times. This is a joint inscription covering pile-dwellings in Austria (5 sites), France (11), Germany (18), Italy (19), Slovenia (2) and Switzerland (56).

The prehistoric pile dwellings around the Alps provide archaeologists an insight into the life of prehistoric people during the Neolithic and Bronze are in Central Europe. Some of these prehistoric pile dwellings are remarkably well preserved. So far, studies have been conducted on only some of these sites, with ongoing studies continuing to yield new information on prehistoric life.

Prehistoric Pile Dwellings around the Alps was inscribed as a World Heritage Site during the 35th session of the World Heritage Committee in Paris, France, on 19 - 29 June, 2011.
