Albacete is a city in the province of Albacete, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. Covering 1,141 sq km (440.7 sq mi), it has a population of 170,000 people (2012 estimate). The city is 258 km to the southeast of Madrid.

Albacete is not much of a tourist destination. Nevertheless among the sights worth visiting include its cathedral and the Albacete Provincial Museum. The Cathedral of Juan de Albacete was begun in 1515 but was only completed in 1959. The present façade is in the Romanesque Revival style. The Albacete Provincial Museum was established in 1927. It focuses on regional civilization and art.

Visiting Albacete

From Madrid, take the AP-36 motorway heading southeast to reach Albacete. You can also take the A-30 motorway from Cartagena and Murcia to the south.
