Almagro is a small town in the province of Ciudad Real, in the autonomous community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It covers 249.73 sq km (96.42 sq mi) and has a population of just over 8,500 people (2012 estimate).

Almagro is a farming town. It produces olives, cotton, wine and cereal. There are also quarries here where basalt is extracted. The town is famous for a variety of small eggplants called Berenjenas de Almagro. These are usually seasoned and pickled, and eaten as a snack in tapas.

Visiting Almagro

From Madrid, head south on the A-4 motorway (Autovia del Sur) until Valdepeñas, then continue west on the CM-412 highway, continuing on CM-413 as you approach Almagro.
