Málaga is a city on the southern coast of Spain. With a population of 570,000, it is the second largest city in the autonomous community of Andalusia, and the sixth largest city in Spain. It is located on the Spanish coast called the Costa del Sol, about 100 km to the east of the Strait of Gibraltar.

With a history going back 2,700 years, Málaga is one of the oldest cities in Spain. As with Cadiz, it was founded by the Phoenicians around 770 BC, and has been ruled by the Roman Republic, Roman Empire and Arabs. The city is renowned as the birthplace of acclaimed painter Pablo Picasso.

Today Málaga is a major beach destination attracting visitors from all over Europe particularly during the summer months. June and July are the warmest months, with average temperatures of between 20°C to 30°C. It also has one of the warmest winters of any major cities in Europe, with January temperatures of between 7°C and 17°C. November and December are the wettest months with precipitations of around 90 mm each month.

The Málaga International Airport (AGP), also called the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Airport, is the fourth busiest airport in Spain after Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona and Palma de Mallorca. It is located 8 km (5 mi) to the southwest of the city center. The airport receives flights from over 60 countries, and served 12 million passengers in 2010.

Arriviing at Málaga Airport, you can take a train, a bus or a taxi to town. A taxi ride will cost you €15 while the Bus 19 only costs €1.10.
