Teruel is a small city in the autonomous community of Aragón, Spain. It covers 440 sq km (170 sq mi) and has a population of just 35,000 people (2012 estimate), making it one of the smallest provincial capitals in Spain.

Teruel is renowned for the mudéjar architecture, which is today recognized as a World Heritage Site under the Mudéjar Architecture of Aragón. The city is also near archaeological sites where the oldest dinosaur remains in the Iberian Peninsula have been discovered.

Teruel traces its history of its founding in 1176 by Sancho Sánchez Muñoz and Blasco Gracés Marcilla. In more recent era, the city was severely devastated during the Spanish Civil War, particularly during the Battle of Teruel between December 1937 and February 1938, with casualties totalling over 100,000 on both sides.

Today Teruel has preserved many of its historic buildings, many of which are inscribed in the World Heritage list.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
