Helsingborg is one of the oldest cities in Sweden, with a history going back to the first permanent settlement established there in 1085. As such its medieval quarters is full of historic buildings. They include Kärnan, a 600-year-old medieval tower that is the only remainder of the fortress that has protected the town.

Today many of the alleyways and streets in the center of Helsingborg have been converted into pedestrian malls. Kullagatan in Helsingborg was in fact the first pedestrian shopping street in Sweden.

The population of Helsingborg was less than 4,000 people at the turn of the 19th century. Then as industrialization arrived in the city, its population began to rise, making it one of the fastest growing cities in Sweden. The city is world headquarters of furniture giant IKEA. Other brands operating from Helsingborg include Nicorette nicotine chewing gum, Ramlösa mineral water and Spectronic mobile phone.

About this website

Hello and thanks for reading this page. My name is Timothy and my hobby is in describing places so that I can share the information with the general public. My website has become the go to site for a lot of people including students, teachers, journalists, etc. whenever they seek information on places, particularly those in Malaysia and Singapore. I have been doing this since 5 January 2003, for over twenty years already. You can read about me at Discover Timothy. By now I have compiled information on thousands of places, mostly in Peninsular Malaysia and Singapore, and I continue to add more almost every day. My goal is to describe every street in every town in Malaysia and Singapore.
