Geneva is the third most important financial center in Europe behind London and Zurich. It is also considered one of the most compact cities in the world, and the fourth most expensive.

The earliest mention of Geneva in history was in AD 121, when it was a fortified settlement. In more recent history, it became the seat of the League of Nations in 1919. The economy of the city received a massive boost when it became the European headquarters of the United Nations after the Second World War.

Geneva experiences a temperate climate. July is the warmest month, with average temperatures of around 25.3°C (77.5°F). January is the coldest month, when temperatures drop to around -1.9°C (28.6°F).
