Gstaad is a small German-speaking village in the canton of Berne in southwestern Switzerland. It is located at an elevation of 1,050 m (3,440 ft) above sea level and has a population of only 2,500 (2011 estimate).

The village of Gstaad is today one of the most exclusive skiing destination in the world. It is near Villars-Sur-Ollon, which has the world-famous Collège Alpin International Beau Soleil. Gstaad is a watering hole for the rich and famous. Most of its hotels and shops cater to the rich, which expect fine dining, high-class nightlife and pampering service.

Visitors to Gstaad can enjoy its many hiking trails, if they are able to afford the upscale services that the village provide. By maintaining its position as a high-class destination, Gstaad has managed to attract the very rich and famous, and a continuous stream of celebrities make their way to this village, to enjoy themselves and to be seen.

Visiting Gstaad

There are train services from Montreux to Gstaad. Visitors should try to get on the Classic trains, which are all wood paneled and glass, created specially for the sightseeing tourist. The fare is just around 50CHF return.
