Saas-Fee is a rustic village in Saas Valley, Visp district, Valais canton, Switzerland. Located under the shadows of the 4,545 m (14,908 ft) Dom, Saas-Fee itself is 1,800 m (5,906 ft) above sea level. It covers 40.57 sq km (15.66 sq mi) and has a population of 1,700 people (2011 estimate).

As with so many villages in the Alps, Saas-Fee has taken advantage of its location to position itself as a mountain resort. It is surrounded by several towering mountains. Apart from Dom, there's Allalinhorn, Weissmies, Nadelhorn and Lenzspitze.

Tourist infrastructure in Saas-Fee include three cable-car systems, a funicular railway, 22 lifts, 5 gondolas and 2 chairlifts. Activities during summer including hiking, paragliding and mountain climbing while in winter, there's skiing, snowboarding and tobogganing.

To keep the stream of tourist unbroken, Saas-Fee has paid much effort to keep its traditions and culture alive. The best time to visit would be during the Swiss National Day, when there would be folk festivals staged celebrate local culture, with cow fights and yodeling contests. During Corpus Christi, there would be street processions and people wearing traditional costumes.

Visiting Saas-Fee

You can take a bus to Saas-Fee from Brigs and Visp. If you drive to Saas-Fee, you have to park you7r car at the special parking lot set up outside the village. Apart from small electric-operated vehicles, the only petrol-fueled vehicles allowed into Saas-Fee are the garbage trucks.
