Market in Pakse, Laos
is a town in southern Laos. It is the biggest town in Champasak Province. Also written as Pakxe, or Paksé in French, Pakse is located at the confluence of the Mekong River
with the Xedone River (also called Don River).
Unlike many towns in Laos that have existed for hundreds of years, Pakse is a pretty recent newcomer, having been founded by the French in 1905 as the administrative centre. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Champasak until 1946, when it was absorbed into the Kingdom of Laos.
The Pakse International Airport (PKZ) is a new airport that was completed in 2009. It offers flights by Lao Airlines to Vientiane
, Luang Prabang
, Phnom Penh
, Siem Reap
