Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman (Johor Bahru Glass Temple)

Start here
The Johor Bahru Glass Temple (GPS: 1.46862, 103.75968), or by its official name, the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman, is a Hindu temple in Johor Bahru. It is located next to the railway tracks, between Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, Jalan Tebrau and Jalan Mohd Taib. This temple is noted for its widespread use of glass and mirrors.

The present Arulmigu Sri Raja Kaliamman Temple dates back to 1996, when the building was rebuilt in a more flamboyant manner. Before that, there were earlier structures going back as far as 1922, making this one of the oldest Hindu temples in Johor Bahru. The inspiration to rebuild the temple with glass came to its chief priest and temple committee chairman, Guru Bhagawan Sittar, who saw temples making extensive use of glass when visiting Bangkok.

Going to the Arulmigu Sri Rajakaliamman Temple

The Johor Bahru Glass Temple is surprisingly difficult to reach, not because it's far, but rather because you have to pass through a construction site (at least, I had to, in Sept 2016). From Jalan Tun Abdul Razak, take the service road (Jalan Tun Abdul Razak 1/1) which curves down the slop in an anti-clockwise direction to reach the temple.

I did not take any photos inside the temple because they charge for interior photography, and I left my wallet in the car.
