Kuala Muda District is a district in southern Kedah. It is bordered by Yan District to the northwest, Pendang District to the north, Sik District to the northeast, Baling District and Kulim District to the southeast, and Penang to the south. Kuala Muda District has a total area of 923 sq km, and has as its seat the town of Sungai Petani, which is also the second biggest city in Kedah.

The district capital of Kuala Muda District is Sungai Petani, the second largest town in Kedah after Alor Setar. Towns in Kuala Muda District include Tikam Batu, Padang Tembusu, Sungai Lalang, Bedong, Bukit Selambau, Sidam, Gurun, Semeling, Merbok, Kota Kuala Muda and Tanjung Dawai.

Kuala Muda District is further subdivided into subdistricts, or mukim, which can be towns in their own right. They include Bandar Aman Jaya, Bedong, Bujang, Bukit Meriam, Bukit Selambau, Gurun, Haji Kudong, Jeniang, Kota, Kota Kuala Muda, Kuala, Merbok, Pekula, Pinang Tunggal, Rantau Panjang, Semeling, Sidam Kiri, Simpor, Sungai Lalang, Sungai Pasir, Sungai Petani, Teloi Kiri, Tikam Batu and Tanjung Dawai.

Kuala Muda District is home to Bujang Valley, site of the oldest civilization in the country. Many of the biggest archaeological sites in Malaysia are located here. Also found here is the Pengkalan Kakap Mosque, one of the oldest mosques in Kedah.
