Jalan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur

Jalan Damansara, Kuala LumpurJalan Damansara, Kuala Lumpur (8 July, 2016)

Jalan Damansara is a road on the western part of the city centre of Kuala Lumpur. Once a country road that leads from Kuala Lumpur to Damansara. According to author Mariana Isa1, the original Damansara was a village by the banks of the Klang River in presently Selangor. The village of Damansara is at the confluence of Sungai Damansara with the Klang River.

With a length of 16 miles, Damansara Road was possibly the longest road in the Klang Valley in the late 19th century. Present-day Jalan Damansara is nothing like what it was back then. Due to numerous road widening, and the renaming of various stretches, only disjointed fragments of Jalan Damansara exist today.

On this page I am attempting to document every remaining fragment of Jalan Damansara. If in future any of these fragments should be expunged, I will update the information.

Segments of Jalan Damansara today

Jalan Damansara Segment I: Jalan Hishamuddin to Jalan Travers

Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin & Jalan Sultan Sulaiman meet Jalan Damansara

Jalan Damansara meets Jalan Sultan Hishamuddin and Jalan Sultan Sulaiman.

Jalan Damansara meets Jalan Damansara

One of the most curious aspects of Jalan Damansara is that two different roads are by the same name, and at this point, they overlap. A ramp from the lower portion circles up to connect with the one above.

Jalan Travers meets Jalan Damansara

Jalan Travers becomes Jalan Damansara after the flyover for Jalan Stesen Sentral.

Jalan Damansara Segment II: Jalan Istana to Jalan Damanseri

Jalan Syed Putra Interchange

Jalan Damansara meets Jalan Istana at this interchange with Jalan Syed Putra. An exit on eastbound Jalan Damansara also connects with Jalan Belfield.

Jalan Syed Putra Interchange

Jalan Damansara forms and interchange with Jalan Tun Sambanthan. An exit ramp also connect westbound Jalan Damansara to Jalan Stesen Sentral.

Another Jalan Damansara meet up

Another exit from one Jalan Damansara to another. On the opposite side is the ramp entering from Persiaran Tuanku Ja'afar.

The new Jalan Damansara meets the old Jalan Damansara

Yet another odd junction, between the widened Jalan Damansara and a remnant of the old Jalan Damansara. A little north of this is the junction with Lebuhraya Sultan Iskandar and Jalan Tuanku Abdul Halim, so the stretch in between can be regarded as a no man's land. For convenience sake, I regard the stretch north of the junction as Lebuhraya Suyltan Iskandar.

Jalan Damansara - Jalan Jelutong junction

Jalan Damansara is fragmented into two parts here, joined together by Jalan Jelutong, yet another idiosyncracy of that long road.

Jalan Damansara - Jalan Damanseri junction

Jalan Damansara meets Jalan Damanseri in a junction, near the Damansara Link of the Sprint Expressway. That Damansara Link was originally Jalan Damansara too, but was renamed.

Jalan Damansara Segment III: Sprint Expressway to Damansara-Puchong Expressway

Sprint Expressway Exit

Exit 2312 of the Sprint Expressway (E23) connects with a remnant segment of Jalan Damansara.

Another junction with the Sprint Expressway

Yet another arm of Jalan Damansara also connects with the Sprint Expressway.

Once again, two arms of Jalan Damansara meet

A branch of Jalan Damansara forms a junction with yet another branch.

Jalan SS 20/21 junction

Jalan Tun Mohd Fuad junction

LDP Interchange

The westernmost end of Jalan Damansara meets the Damansara-Puchong Expressway (E11). An underpass connects westbound Jalan Damansara to northbound LDP.

A big thank you to Mariana Isa for help in explaining to me the present and past routes of Jalan Damansara.
