Malacca Monorail

Start here
Malacca Monorail is a sightseeing monorail that runs through the popular parts of the historic city of Malacca. This recreational monorail project, similar to those in the Jurong Bird Park and Singapore Zoo, runs along the bank of the Malacca River. It starts at Taman Rempah (Spice Garden) and ends at Hang Tuah, near the former Shaw Brothers City Park.

The Malacca Monorail comprises a single carriage capable of taking 15 passengers. There are two stations named Stesen Hang Tuah and Stesen Hang Jebat. The distance is 1.5 km but the journey will be approximately 20 minutes, to enable the users time for sightseeing along the way. The monorail is expected to run from 8:00 am in the morning to 12:00 am midnight.

Route of Malacca Monorail

The Malacca Monorail has three stations namely the Hang Jebat Station, Hang Tuah Station and Tun Ali Station. The fare is RM10 for a journey of about 2.5 km that takes 30 minutes. Certainly this is not a commuter monorail, but rather one for sightseeing, like those in theme parks.

Update: 11 December, 2010
The Malacca monorail has ground to a halt due to a host of problems. It was launched in October 2010 but by the time of this update, it has been idle for a month. The coach stalled about 100 meters from the Hang Jebat station with 20 passengers on board.
