Raffles City (GPS: 1.29401, 103.85338) is a huge retail, office and hotel complex in the Civic District, within the Downtown Core of Singapore. It occupies a whole city block bounded by Stamford Road, Beach Road, Bras Basah Road and North Bridge Road.

Raffles City was designed by the famous Guangzhou-born Chinese American architect, I.M. Pei, who later also designed the Gateway Building. It comprises the 73-storey Swissôtel The Stamford, the 6th tallest hotel in the world, and Fairmont Singapore, a 26-storey high-end twin-block hotel. In addition, there is the 42-storey Raffles City Tower, the Raffles City Shopping Centre; and the Raffles City Convention Centre.

Raffles City opened on 3 October, 1986. It was built on the site of the historic Raffles Institution, across the road from Raffles Hotel.

Hotels at Raffles City

Raffles City Shopping Centre has several anchor tenants. The Dairy Farm Group operates the Jason's Market Place and Guardian pharmacy on the basement, while above, the department store Robinsons and Marks & Spencers took over the space previously occupied by the Japanese retail chain, Sogo. Also within the Raffles The Plaza is Asia's largest spa, RafflesAmrita Spa.

Raffles City is connected to another huge retail development, Suntec City, by a subterranean mall, called CityLink Mall.

How to reach Raffles City

Take the East West Line or North South Line to the City Hall MRT Station (NS25/EW13) , which has an exit at Raffles City. By 2010, the new Circle Line will be opened, and Raffles City will be connected to it via a subterranean passageway to the Esplanade MRT Station (CC3).
