- Snow City
As its name suggests, this is a climate-controlled environment simulating a winter environment. Snow City covers a 3,000 sq meter area within Science Centre complex. The Snow Chamber, where you can experience snow and ice, covers 1,200 sq meters of the area. Here, the temperature is maintained at a constant -5°C.
Perhaps the most popular attraction at Snow City is the Snow Slope. This is a 60-meter slope where you can go snowtubing. Other attractions include the Ice Bar, Hot Chocolate Bar, Polar Bear Gallery, Santa's Cabin and Little Penguin's Snowy Children Playground.
Admission fee to Snow City is for adults $14 for one hour and $27 for two hours, for children 3-16 years it is $14 for one hour and $22 for two hours. Senior adults aged 55 years and above enjoy a discount of $2. No cameras and video cameras are allowed inside the Snow Chamber. See also the Value Packages under Admission to Science Centre.
This is an IMAX movie theatre within the Science Centre complex. Opened in 1987, it is presently the only IMAX dome theatre in Singapore. The 5-storey dome screen provides an exciting viewing experience not found in conventional theatres.
Admission fee to just the Omni-Theatre is $10 for adults, $7 for children. Senior citizens aged 55 and above pay $8 but only during weekdays. For the admission price, you get to watch a 40-minute IMAX movie. See also the Value Packages under Admission to Science Centre.
Feature Sections of Science Centre
- Kinetic Garden
Located in front of the Science Centre complex, the Kinetic Garden demonstrates scientific principles and physics. The features of the Kinetic Gallery include the Lithophone, where each stone emit a different tune, the Walk Your Weight see saw, and the Magic Swing.
This garden occupies the outside of the Science Centre complex. In keeping with its name, the garden attempts to allow the plants to grow with minimal intervention and pest control, apart from the occasional pruning and maintenance.
At the Ecogarden, visitors may visit the Rubber Centenery Monument, which provides a chronological history of the introduction of rubber to Singapore, creating the rubber industry in Southeast Asia. There is a mini rubber plantation showcasing how rubber trees are tapped.
Other highlights of the Ecogarden include a Fernarium, with different types of ferns; a Mini-Orchard, with different fruit trees; a Lime Tree Corner exhibiting different varieties of lime trees; a Medicinal Garden with its collection of medicinal plants and herbs; Ponds exhibits a variety of aquatic plants and animals; Common Wayside Trees showcasing some of the trees found along the roads in Singapore; Culinary Garden hosting a plethora of spice plants; Economic Crop Mini-Plantation provides an insight into economic crops such as oil palm, coffee, cocoa, coconut, cashew and eucalyptus; Leaf Litter Corner educates on what can be found within a heap of dead leaves; Vegetable Beds showcases a variety of vegetables; and finally, the Tree House, a fun place to take a rest after all the exploring!
