Wat Mai Chai Wichit, AyutthayaWat Mai Chai Wichit, Ayutthaya (30 December, 2002)

Wat Mai Chai Wichit (GPS: 14.36051, 100.55744; Thai: วัดใหม่ไชยวิชิต ) is a small Thai Buddhist temple in Ayutthaya, Thailand. It comprises a viharn and a chedi. Unlike the usual arrangement for Thai Buddhist temple, where the chedi is to the west of the viharn, over here it is the other way around, with the chedi to the east.

Wat Mai Chai Wichit is located on the northern edge of the Royal Palace grounds of Ayutthaya. Across the road from this temple is the old Lopburi River. Over there you will find Tha Wasukri (ท่าวาสุกรี ), the boat landing that was the royal jetty. Royal barges would stop here to pick up or drop off royalty.

There used to be a covered walkway, called chanuan (ฉนวน ) that leads from here, through the Royal Palace, all the way to Wat Si Sanphet. It is for the use of royalty, to provide them shelter from the sun and also to screen them from the common people. In fact, the area was out of bounds to the public, and no boat was allowed to pass this stretch of the Old Lopburi River in front of the Grand Palace.
