Wat Thepthidaram, Bangkok, Thailand (29 August, 2006)
Wat Thepthidaram Worawihan (GPS: 13.75339, 100.50421; Thai: วัดเทพธิดารามวรวิหาร

) is the temple located south of
Wat Ratchanatdaram, in
Bangkok, Thailand. Located on Samran Rat Road, it was constructed in 1836 - 1839 by King Rama III, and is one of the temples he built during his reign, in addition to the many that he restored. The temple's buildings were built in combined Thai - Chinese styles. Chinese influence can be noted in the use of Chinese glazed tiles, and gables decorated with Chinese porcelain.
King Rama III established this temple for his eldest daughter, Princess Kroma Muen Apsomsudathep. As such, the name of the temple can be translated roughly as the Temple of the Heavenly Daughter.
Sunthon Phu, a famous Thai poet who lived during the time of King Rama III, stayed at Wat Thepthidaram during his monkhood. He is famous for penning two novels, Phra Apaimanee and Khunchang-Khunpaen. Within the compound of the temple is Sunthon Phu Museum that displays his story and belongings. The museum is open daily from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
Getting there
Wat Thepthidaram is located behind Wat Ratchanatdaram. There are no Skytrains to this area, so the most convenient way to get there is by taxi. Ask the taxi to stop along Ratchadamnoen Klang Road, in front of Wat Ratchanatdaram, and visit both temples together, in addition to other nearby sights as listed below.
