Wat Thaton (GPS: xxzz; Thai: วัดท่าตอน(พระอารามหลวง)
) is a major Thai Buddhist temple complex in Chiang Mai Province, Thailand. It is located within the small town of the same name, Thaton, which is by the banks of the Kok River, just a short distance from the border with Myanmar.The main highlight of Wat Thatonh is Chedi Kaew, also called the Emerald Stupa. It is located a distance from the temple buildings at the lower level. From here, one can get very good views of the surrounding region. Another major sight is the giant Buddha statue. Called the Phra Buddha Nirandornchai, it can be seen from the lower viharn.
